Turn Up the Music and Tidy Up Your Space

If you’ve ever set a goal to get more organized—really meant it, too—and then life happened… you are not alone. You look at the cluttered room, the overflowing hallway, the messy walkway that keeps stressing you out, and instead of feeling motivated, you feel tired. Overwhelmed. Maybe even a little discouraged. And honestly? What you really want to do in that moment is put on your favorite music and escape.

And here’s what I want you to know, friend: you can do both.

You can listen to your favorite music and make real progress. And it doesn’t have to take all day.

A Simple Moment That Changes Everything

So many people think getting organized means you need hours of uninterrupted time, a perfect plan, and a perfectly calm mindset. But most of us don’t have that. We have five minutes here, ten minutes there—and a whole lot of mental exhaustion.

That’s why I love this approach so much.

Because instead of waiting until you feel ready… you create a moment that feels doable. Even enjoyable.

Here’s what I want you to do: get your favorite music ready—at least three songs. Not an entire playlist. Not two hours of background noise. Just three songs that make you feel good in your body. Something that makes you want to sway a little. Smile a little. Breathe a little deeper.

Then grab a couple boxes and a couple bags. Nothing fancy. Just whatever you have.

And head toward the area that is stressing you out the most—the room, the category, the walkway, the spot you keep avoiding.

The Shift That Makes Organizing Feel Lighter

Once you’re in that space, you’re going to keep it simple. We’re not organizing everything today. We’re not aiming for perfection. We’re just creating movement.

Choose just 2 or 3 categories—ones you can hold easily and set aside without overthinking. For example:

  Donations (a box or bag)
  Trash (a bag)
  Belongs elsewhere (a box)

That “belongs elsewhere” category is magic, by the way.

Because it’s for things you actually want to keep… just not in that space.

Not in that room.
Not in that hallway.
Not in that walkway.

It belongs elsewhere.

Now press play.

And while those songs are going, you’re going to do one thing: walk around and look for items that fit those categories. That’s it. No complicated decisions. No deep sorting. Just quick wins.

Fill the boxes. Fill the bags. Let the music carry you.

And yes—dance if you want to. Laugh if you want to. Organizing doesn’t have to feel heavy to be effective.

The Encouragement That Keeps You Going

Then when those songs are over… you stop.

That part matters.

Because this isn’t about draining yourself. This is about building trust with yourself again. It’s about proving that progress can feel light. That you don’t have to “power through” to make change.

When the music ends, take a breath and say:

“I’m done.”
or
“That was fun.”
or
“Wow… I actually made a dent.”

And if you feel like it, you can do it again. Another three songs. Another quick round. But there’s no pressure. Even one round is a win.

Because every time you remove a little trash, set aside a donation bag, or collect items that belong elsewhere—you are creating space. You’re clearing stress. You’re shifting the energy of your home.

And you’re reminding yourself: I can do this.

Organizing isn’t about becoming a different person. It’s about creating a home that supports the person you already are. Every small choice you make adds up. Every box filled is progress. Every surface that gets a little clearer makes the day feel a little easier. And truly—every drawer you open with ease is a small act of self-care.
