Love, Lore, and Letting Go

Love, Lore, and Letting Go

We spend the first part of our lives collecting items that we love and need. We equip our homes, decorate our spaces and fill our closets. We collect photos, souvenirs, and commemorative items as we enjoy full, busy lives.

And then our lives and homes get perhaps too full or too busy. We may need to simplify, downsize, and/or get organized to make ourselves happier and our lives more manageable. This can mean letting go of items that we no longer use or have room for.

For many of us this may be an emotionally difficult task. Rather than resist these emotions, I say embrace them. Reminisce about the loved one that gave it to you, how you used it when it was a daily part of your life, or the memories it sparks.

As you warm your own heart with these memories, you may want to consider how those items might be a blessing to someone else. Whether you have had items for a day or a decade, you do not need to keep them physically to keep them in your heart.  By all means keep the items that still make you happy, enhance your life, and fit your current (or upcoming) space and lifestyle. But for those items that do not fit, there are many ways to recirculate them.  Here are some organizations that we regularly deliver to on behalf of our clients:

  • Habitat ReStore

  • Tree of Life Family Birth Center

  • JCPS Clothing Assistance Program

  • LaCasita Center

  • Donation Station

  • God’s Designs

  • Metro Louisville Cyber Recycling

  • Greenway Shredding

Whether we are in the collecting phase, the reminiscing phase, or the letting go phase, our lives can be organized, peaceful, and productive. Love your life, tell its stories, and let go of whatever does not serve you.
