Less Stuff, More Purpose

You know how it can often feel easier to do something for someone else than to do it for yourself? Recently, I’ve noticed that happening with friends, family and organizing clients in a way that is ALSO helping keep their homes from becoming cluttered. There is a marked increase in the number of people who are shopping, or NOT shopping, with intention. They are voting with their dollars and choosing to support businesses that align with their values—especially when it comes to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). They're stepping away from retailers that don’t reflect those very important initiatives. They are thinking about family members that need walker/wheelchair ramps, customer service desks that need long term employees with a variety of skills and experiences and communities that need stronger, healthier, local businesses,

That’s meaningful and impactful in itself. But like my mama always said “You can’t out give God.” By standing up for their neighbors and communities, they are also benefitting themselves. On a number of levels, including by having less cluttered homes. In my organizing clients’ homes, I am seeing:

Fewer shipping boxes & shopping bags

Fewer duplicate (and triplicate) items

Fewer expired items that go to wasteA

And I am hearing from surprised, happy clients that because they are doing it to help others, they can more easily:

Choose something other than shopping for recreation

Avoid impulse purchasing

Enjoy in person connection instead of online shopping

The result? Less overwhelm. More clarity. More calm.

And organizing systems that are easier to maintain because there are fewer things to sort and find a home for.

So if you’re in a season of re-evaluating what matters most—whether that’s where you shop or how you spend your time and money—know this: those conscious choices are creating more than just social impact. They’re also building a home environment that feels more supportive, manageable, and organized.

And that’s a win in every way.
