The Light We Choose to Share
Peaceful morning coffee in an intentionally curated home.
This morning, I woke up a little earlier than usual so I could enjoy something we all need from time to time—a few quiet moments before the day begins. No phone. No rushing. Just a peaceful start with a cup of coffee, a little reflection, and a chance to simply be.
As I sat in my favorite spot in the kitchen, I pulled a card from Reverend Martha Creek's Divine Guidance card deck. The message was simple, but it stopped me in my tracks:
"Go into the darkness and shed light."
What a beautiful reminder. It made me think about how each of us has opportunities every day to bring a little more kindness, hope, encouragement, and beauty into the lives of others.
The Things That Tell Our Story
As a professional organizer, people sometimes assume my home is filled with only the essentials. The truth is, the things I choose to keep have meaning. I don't surround myself with clutter, but I do surround myself with reminders of people, experiences, and causes that matter to me.
The kitchen is where I spend much of my time, and over the years I've intentionally curated it to be a place that brings me peace. When I look around, I don't just see objects. I see stories.
One of my favorite pieces is a simple ginger jar sitting on my countertop. It's labeled "Ginger" because, well...that's exactly what's inside. It could have held anything, but this little jar reminds me of much more than a spice.
It came from Just Creations, a wonderful fair-trade nonprofit that supports artisans and communities around the world. Even more meaningful, I purchased it during a fundraiser benefiting Huntington's disease research. Every time I reach for it, I'm reminded that something as ordinary as a kitchen container can represent generosity, compassion, and people working together to make the world a little brighter.
That's the kind of item I love keeping in my home—not because it's expensive or decorative, but because it carries a story worth remembering.
Curating a Home That Reflects Your Heart
One of the questions I hear often is, "How do I know what to keep?"
My answer usually isn't about whether something sparks joy or whether it fits neatly inside a drawer. It's about asking whether it reflects the life you're creating.
Our homes don't have to be museums of everything we've ever owned. They can become carefully curated spaces that gently remind us of our values, the people we love, the places we've been, and the causes that inspire us.
I'm actually pretty selective when people offer me gifts. There are very few things I automatically say yes to.
Rocks, however?
Those almost always make the cut.
I've loved rocks for as long as I can remember. They're simple, beautiful, and each one is completely unique. They remind me that beauty doesn't have to be complicated, polished, or perfect.
Sometimes the smallest treasures become the most meaningful.
A Little More Light
The card I drew this morning has stayed with me all day.
"Go into the darkness and shed light."
Maybe that light looks like offering encouragement to a friend. Maybe it's supporting a nonprofit whose mission touches your heart. Maybe it's creating a peaceful corner in your home where you can slow down and breathe. Or maybe it's letting go of things that no longer represent who you are so there's room for what truly does.
Organizing isn't just about creating tidy spaces. It's about making room for what matters most and allowing your home to tell the story of your life with intention, warmth, and authenticity.
I hope today you find a way to share a little of your own light. The world—and your home—will be better because of it.
