When Home Organizing Is a Two-Way Street

One of my favorite parts of being a professional organizer is how much I get to learn from my clients. Sure, I bring my knowledge, systems, and experience into every project—but my clients bring their own wisdom and insights, too.

Every organizing project starts with a strategic conversation. I ask thoughtful questions—not just about what’s cluttered or where things are stored, but about how the home is used, what’s working well, and what hasn’t been working lately. We talk about spaces, routines, and the people who live there. Most importantly, we explore how they want their home to feel. From there, I create a customized organizing plan that’s completely tailored to their needs.

But that’s only the beginning. Once the organizing systems are in place, I always check back in. Life changes—what worked last month might not fit as well today. My goal is to ensure the storage solutions and organization methods we set up are still making life easier, not harder.

Recently, I worked with a client who had a beautiful home filled with essential oils—but they were scattered in every corner. I gathered them together, created a centralized storage area, and organized the rest of the home as well. When she went on vacation, she returned to a fresh, functional space that was easy to maintain.

Here’s what made me smile: she told me she’d kept up with the entire home’s organization exactly as planned—but she also chose to redistribute the essential oils intentionally so family and friends could enjoy them in every room.

I loved that decision. Because home organization isn’t about rigid rules—it’s about creating a space that supports your lifestyle, your preferences, and your happiness. If that means scattering essential oils so they’re ready to share with the people you love, then that’s the perfect organizing solution for your home.
