Listening to the Season

A woman gazes out across the room while she wraps holiday gifts. Christmas tree in th background.

We’re midway through the 12 days of Christmas, and I can feel the familiar pull to organize. There are corners of my home that would love a deep dive—my storeroom especially. But right alongside that urge is something quieter and stronger. A gentle tug in my heart reminding me to slow down, to be, to reflect, and to enjoy the season for what it is.

This time of year invites us to notice what matters most. To breathe. To listen. To let the pace soften, even if just a little.

When Pausing & Simply Being Take the Lead

For me, the winter holiday season holds deep meaning on many levels —the birth of Christ and the idea of Christ consciousness being born within each of us. Yuletide, the gifts of nature, the solstice calling us to be, and to celebrate light. It’s a beautiful time to close one calendar year and open the next with intention. A chance to ask ourselves how we want to bring love and light into the world in the months ahead.

I know that one of the ways I do that is through organizing—helping people create homes that feel calmer, lighter, and more supportive of their lives. And I also know that there are seasons when the most loving thing we can do is pause the projects and simply allow ourselves to be present.

Giving Yourself Permission to Reflect

Taking time to reflect isn’t avoidance. It’s not falling behind. It’s an enlightening, healing step. A quiet, meaningful practice that helps us reconnect with gratitude and purpose. When we allow ourselves this space, the organizing doesn’t disappear—it waits patiently, ready for us when the time feels right.

Deep winter, whether you celebrate Christmas, the twelve days of Christmas, or another tradition entirely, is a natural invitation inward. A reminder that happiness is not earned through productivity alone. It’s something you already deserve.

As the season wraps you in its stillness, I hope you find moments to reflect, to rest, and to remember that caring for yourself—mind, heart, and home—can happen gently and in its own time.Organizing will always be there when you’re ready. And so will the clarity that comes from honoring the season you’re in. May these days bring you peace, warmth, and the quiet reassurance that you’re exactly where you need to be.
