Creative Ways to Organize a Big Jewelry Collection
If you have a large jewelry collection—whether it's fine, costume, sentimental, or sparkly—you’ve probably run into this issue: how do you store and display it in a way that’s both functional and beautiful?
I recently worked with a lovely client who had a stunning collection and a clear vision: she wanted everything visible and accessible, with nothing hidden away in drawers or closed boxes. Her jewelry brings her joy, and she wanted that joy reflected in her everyday space. I love that kind of clarity—it makes the job of a professional organizer both fun and rewarding!
She had already taken a big step by designating a locking closet for her collection, allowing her the freedom to keep it all on display. But two major organizing challenges were standing in her way:
◈ She didn’t have enough functional storage solutions to keep things both organized and visible
◈ Her open display setup had become a dusting nightmare, with dozens of tiny pieces sitting directly on the bureau
Here’s how we tackled those issues with compassionate, creative organizing strategies that made her space not only more manageable, but more joyful:
1. Maximize Existing Organizing Systems
Instead of starting from scratch, we did a system assessment—taking stock of what was already working. We kept her current containers and tools, then made smart adjustments to help them work harder. This is a hallmark of professional organizing: working with what you have when possible, and building on it with purpose.
2. Use Vertical Storage for Style and Function
Next, we introduced vertical organizing solutions. Think easel-style jewelry stands that show off earrings, necklaces, and bracelets while saving precious horizontal space. These stands serve two purposes: they reduce surface clutter and turn everyday items into a decorative display.
We curated options that reflected her personal aesthetic, and she immediately felt connected to the new look—so much so, she ordered them on the spot. That’s the power of pairing functionality with style!
3. Shop Your Home for Hidden Gems
One of my favorite organizing hacks is "home shopping"—scouting the house for trays, bowls, or decorative dishes that aren’t getting much use. We found a few beautiful trays—silver, ceramic, and glass—and used them to group jewelry by category: a tray for bracelets, a tray for earrings, and so on.
This simple solution cut down the clutter and made dusting a breeze. Instead of lifting dozens of tiny pieces, she now just moves a few elegant trays. It’s streamlined and satisfying.
If your jewelry setup is currently more chaos than charm, don’t stress. A few intentional organizing tweaks can help you transform your collection into a display that makes you smile every day. Whether you're working with heirlooms, budget-friendly accessories, or a mix of both, the goal is the same: to create a space that is organized, beautiful, and easy to maintain.
Because organizing isn’t about perfection—it’s about making your space work for you.
