A Little Extra Love in Every Label
Pinky Jackson Organizing’s P-Touch cube label maker prints out several labels for children’s clothing sizes.
I love the trend that starts with “rich because…” I am rich for so many reasons. I have a wonderful family I adore, I love my work, my team, our clients and my little house in the country where even on my “day off,” my mind wanders back to the work we do to make them feel richly organized and peaceful.
The Sweet Joy of the “Little Extras”
Today, that meant sitting at my table with my label maker humming beside me. Our team uses a P-touch Cube—it’s simple, reliable, and honestly one of my favorite tools. When we’re with clients, we often have time during a session to create labels as we go. But some days, decluttering, containing and placement are the priorities and the volume is such that the session ends before our temporary labels can be replaced with permanent ones. For clients who have purchased additional hours on our calendar, we can label another day. But for clients whose projects have come to end, or who need to pause organizing until their schedules and /or budgets allow, we give them a little extra AND help them more deeply learn where each item belongs. (hooray for neuroplasticity!)
We create their labels, tuck them into an envelope, and mail them out with a note about how to apply them, a request to send us a picture when it’s complete, and a nudge to do that within a few days. By taking those steps, clients bring intentionality & focus into their organizing habits and help hold themselves and all their housemates accountable for maintaining the system we created for them. It’s a small gesture, but it matters—especially for clients who feel calmer when everything has a clear, beautiful home. And I love knowing they’ll open their mailbox to a little surprise that nudges their organizing journey forward.
Labels for Real Life, Real Homes
In addition to maintaining our organized homes, some of us need help identifying our inventory. Many of the people we work with are wonderfully creative. Some make their own cleaning supplies, skin care ingredients, and home remedies. Some keep a pantry full of healthy homemade goodies. And because they’re bottling themselves and often reusing containers that weren’t originally meant for their new purpose… they often need labels that can keep up.
That’s where we step in—helping them create order that matches their lifestyle. Whether it’s a hand-poured cleaner in a mason jar or a repurposed bottle of something now living a completely different life, labels bring clarity, beauty, and ease.
A Tiny Tallow Jar and an Unexpected Lesson
And then there are moments like today—when I was holding a small jar of whipped tallow from a lovely older woman named Ava. She’s the kind of person who radiates warmth. As she handed me the jar, she said, “If you need more, just call me.”
I turned the jar over, smiled, and said, “I’d love to—what’s your number?”
She pulled out her business card—because her phone number wasn’t on the jar. Not anywhere. And something about that moment felt tender and true. She’d made something with her hands, something nurturing and old-fashioned and beautiful… but she hadn’t put her contact info on it.
So I made a label.
Just a tiny one: Made by Ava, and her phone number.
It’s now on the bottom of the jar, ready to guide me back to her when I need more. And it reminded me that labeling isn’t just about organization. Sometimes it’s about connection. It’s about making sure we stay in relationship with the people who created the things we love.
The Gentle Magic of Small Systems
Here’s what I tell my clients: organization doesn’t have to be grand or complicated. Sometimes it’s one small step—a label, a system, a gentle nudge toward clarity.
Those tiny moments stack up. They make your home feel more like you. They bring ease to your routines. They give your mind just a little more breathing room.
And you deserve that peace, even on cold days when your hair won’t cooperate.
