A Book That Reminds Me Why I Love Organizing

I want to share a book with you—not just because it’s a great read, but because it beautifully ties into what I experience so often as a professional organizer. It’s called Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman. I listened to it on the Libby app (yay for free public libraries!), and its message really moved me.

The book explores centuries of human history and challenges the idea that people are inherently selfish or cruel. Instead, it shows how humans are, more often than not, kind—and that when we act unkindly, it’s usually out of a deep longing for connection. That insight stuck with me.

It made me think about why I’m so passionate about home organizing. For me, organizing isn’t just about pretty baskets or perfectly labeled shelves (though I love those too!). It’s about creating space for connection. When we declutter, when we make a home feel calm, functional, and organized, we open the door for something so much bigger: the chance to connect more deeply—with ourselves, with our families, and with the people we love.

When your home feels organized and welcoming, it’s so much easier to say:

“Hey, neighbor, come on in!”

“Let’s host a potluck.”

“Come over for tea.”

An organized space makes it easier to welcome others in, whether they’re friends, neighbors, or new acquaintances. Sharing a meal or a simple cup of tea becomes an act of kindness, a moment of human connection made possible by a space that supports it.

That’s why I love what I do. I love helping people create homes where kindness, connection, and community can flourish. Because when your surroundings are supporting you—when your home is decluttered, organized, and functional—you have more energy, more clarity, and more courage to open your doors and open your heart.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by clutter or dreaming of a home that feels more peaceful and connected, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to do it alone. I’d love to help you create a home that not only looks good but feels good—a space where hope, kindness, and connection can thrive.
