42 Years of Organizing: Why Every Moment Counts
When people ask me how long I’ve been a professional organizer, I smile and say, “42 years.”
Cue the wide eyes, the raised eyebrows, and the inevitable: “You don’t look old enough for that!”
But here’s the truth—I’ve been organizing in one form or another for most of my life.
Today, I’m proud to lead an amazing team of talented organizers, but for a full decade before that, I was running my organizing business solo—handling everything from client sessions to admin and scheduling. And long before I even knew what a career in organizing could look like, I was instinctively bringing order to chaos: decluttering homes, creating systems, managing schedules, coordinating events, streamlining teams, and supporting others behind the scenes.
I didn’t know it had a name, but I was doing what all great organizers do:
☑ Creating calm
☑ Maximizing function
☑ Helping people gain clarity in their homes and lives
So yes—when I say I’ve been organizing for over four decades, I mean it.
But I also want to be real with you: for many years, I wasn’t being paid well—or at all—for that work.
And I know I’m not alone.
In service-based industries, especially those led by women, it’s far too common to undervalue our time, our talents, and our expertise. So if you’re in this field—or thinking about becoming a professional home organizer—let me tell you this:
◈ Your skills are valuable.
◈ Your eye for detail, your calm presence, your ability to transform spaces—that’s real expertise.
◈ The emotional labor you bring to your clients? It’s worth being compensated and respected.
You can build a successful, sustainable career as a home organizing professional. You can earn credentials, grow your client base, and develop the kind of deep, intuitive organizing expertise that truly transforms lives.
And when you do this work from a place of confidence and compassion—with proper support, recognition, and fair pay—your impact ripples outward.
You’re not just clearing out closets.
You’re restoring peace of mind.
You’re helping families function better.
You’re creating space for joy.
And that matters.
Because this isn’t just about tidy pantries or labeled bins—it’s about making life easier, lighter, and more manageable for the people you serve.
So however long you’ve been organizing—formally or not—know this:
It counts. It matters. And so do you.
